OC's U15 had a good morning against a strong Romford opposition at home on Sunday, winning 45-17, with some fantastic individual tries and a great defensive work rate.
An early Jayden Singh Bal try after some great passing settled the nerves, shortly followed by an excellent catch by Jayden Wilkinson, from a cross field kick by Jayden SB, and a fast run in under the posts. Romfords large pack began to dominate at scrum time, and some heavy charges through the middle earned them a try. Time and again the larger Romford forwards got close to the OC line, however were repelled by some great tackles and timely turnovers, particularly from Dan Moorey and Toby Keegan. The OC lineout performed well with a great performance from Aidan March at hooker, allowing quick ball to be sent out to the fast OC backline. A typically mazy run and try from Jayden SB helped to end the half at a deserved score of 19-5.
Romford came out all guns blazing in the second half and pinned OC down in their own 22 for a time, and after a monumental defensive effort, the inevitable try was scored, leaving the scoreline quite tight. OC tightened up their passing and began to hit some hard straight lines with Reggie Marshall using a mix of pace and power to surge through the Romford defence and score a fine try. Two more Jayden SB tries, both from broken play and both leaving Romford tacklers flailing, followed by another strong Reggie surge and try, put the game out of reach. Plucky Romford still managed another score through their pack and the game was over. Even though Jayden SB scored 4 tries, it wasn't enough to earn MOTM, that accolade went to Toby Keegan for a superb defensive performance. COTM was Dan Taplin for a clearance kick that actually went backwards!
Overall a good day for OC Under 15s with 7 tries scored in total and Reggie converting 5.
